# How To Clean Grimy Tile Floors

A grimy, dirty tile floor can make any home look unkempt and unattractive. Fortunately, with a few simple steps and the right products, you can bring your tile floors back to their former glory. This guide will help you clean tile floors quickly and safely, restoring them to their original beauty.

## Preparing to Clean Tile Floors

Before beginning the cleaning process, you should take a few steps to ensure your safety. Make sure you’re wearing gloves and protective eyewear before handling any cleaning materials. If you’re using a chemical cleaner, make sure it’s safe for use on tiles and that it won’t damage any of the surrounding surfaces. You may also want to cover any furniture or appliances near the area with a drop cloth or tarp.

## Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

When it comes to cleaning tile floors, there are a few essential supplies to have on hand. You’ll need a mop, bucket, rubber gloves, mild detergent, and a non-abrasive scrub brush. If you’re dealing with particularly stubborn grime or stains, you may want to invest in a stronger cleaner or an oxygen bleach solution.

## Vacuum or Sweep the Floor

Before mopping, it’s important to remove any dirt or debris from the surface of the tiles. Vacuuming is the best option for this, but if you don’t have access to a vacuum cleaner then sweeping can work as well. Make sure to get into all the cracks and crevices in order to fully remove any dirt buildup.

## Mix Your Cleaning Solution

Once you’ve removed loose particles from the floor, it’s time to make your cleaning solution. In a bucket, mix together a few squirts of mild dish soap (or other tile-safe detergent) and some warm water until suds begin to form. If your floors are particularly grimy or stained, you may need to use an oxygen bleach solution instead of soap.

## Mop the Floors

Now that you have your cleaning solution ready, it’s time to start mopping. Dip your mop into the bucket and wring it out until it’s damp but not dripping wet. Begin mopping in one corner of the room and work your way outwards in overlapping strokes until the entire floor has been washed. Rinse your mop regularly in the bucket as you go along to keep from spreading dirt around.

## Scrub Stubborn Areas

If there are any areas with stubborn grime or stains, it’s time to break out the scrub brush. Dip the brush into the cleaning solution and scrub gently in small circles until all dirt has been removed. Be careful not to press too hard or you could scratch or damage the tiles. Once all areas are clean, rinse away any remaining suds with clean water.

## Dry the Floors

Once all the dirt has been removed and rinsed away, it’s time to dry your tile floors. The best way to do this is by taking a clean towel and blotting away any excess water from the tiles until they’re dry to the touch. If possible, you may also want to open some windows or turn on a fan in order to speed up the drying process and help prevent mould from forming on your tile floors.

Cleaning grimy tile floors doesn’t have to be an arduous task. With these simple steps and the right supplies, you can quickly restore your tile floors back to their former glory. In no time at all, your floors will be looking sparkling clean and ready for guests!
