# How To Lay Timber Laminate Flooring

Installing your own laminate flooring can be a great way to save money and add value to your home. Laminate flooring is a great choice for areas of your home that are prone to moisture and humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. It’s also easy to care for, durable, and much more affordable than hardwood or tile.

In this article, we’ll look at how to lay timber laminate flooring. We’ll cover everything from preparing the subfloor and measuring out the space, to laying down the laminate boards and finishing off with trim.

## Preparing The Subfloor

Before you start laying down your laminate planks, it’s important to prepare the subfloor. This will ensure that the laminate has a level surface on which to sit. Start by cleaning the subfloor of any debris and dust. Check for any high or low spots in the floor, and use a self-leveling compound to fill any dips or holes.

Once the subfloor is level, cover it with a vapor barrier. This will protect against moisture and help keep the laminate boards in place. Make sure you use a vapor barrier that is designed for use with laminate flooring.

## Measuring Out The Space

The next step is to measure out the space where you want to lay your laminate boards. Take measurements of both the length and width of the area you want to cover. If necessary, use a jigsaw or circular saw to cut the boards to size.

## Laying The Laminate Boards

Once you’ve prepared the subfloor and measured out the area, it’s time to start laying down your laminate boards. Start by laying out the first row of boards along one wall of the room, making sure they are all even and flush with each other at both ends. Use a tapping block and hammer to secure them in place.

Continue laying down rows until you reach the opposite wall of the room. Make sure that each row is lined up evenly with the adjacent rows so that there are no gaps between them. When you reach walls or other obstacles, cut the planks with a jigsaw or circular saw so they fit snugly into place.

## Finishing Off With Trim

Once all of your boards are laid down, it’s time to finish off with trim. Trim pieces provide a finished look for your flooring and help protect it from damage caused by furniture or pets claws. Start by measuring along each wall of the room where you want to install trim pieces, then cut them to size with a miter saw or hand saw. Secure them in place using nails or screws, then caulk any gaps between them and the walls for a professional finish.

With just a few tools and some patience, laying timber laminate flooring is a relatively easy DIY project that can add value and style to any home. For more information on installing timber laminate flooring, check out our other articles on our website!
