# How To Carpet A Concrete Basement Floor

A concrete basement floor can present a challenge when it comes to decorating, as conventional carpets may not fit the space. However, with the right materials and tools, it is possible to carpet a concrete basement floor successfully. Read on for some helpful tips on how to do just that.

## Gather Materials and Tools

The most important part of carpeting a concrete basement floor is gathering the necessary materials and tools. These include carpet padding (which will provide extra cushioning), carpet, carpet adhesive, a measuring tape, utility knife, and a heavy-duty stapler. Depending on the size of your concrete basement floor, you may need to purchase additional materials or tools.

## Measure the Area

Once you have all of your materials and tools, the next step is to measure the area you’d like to carpet. Measure the length and width of the area you’d like to cover in order to determine how much carpet and adhesive you will need. If you are struggling to measure the area accurately, consider using graph paper or another type of grid system to help you get an accurate measurement.

## Install the Padding

Once you have measured the area, it’s time to install the padding. Start by laying out the padding on top of the concrete surface with the rough side facing up. Secure it in place using staples along all four sides. Make sure that there are no gaps between the padding and the concrete surface.
